There are four main island groups in the Kingdom of Tonga, from Tongatapu in the south, the Ha'apai island group, Vava'u and the small and distant Niuas in the far north.

International airlines such as Air New Zealand and Pacific Blue (Virgin Airlines) fly directly into the main island of Tongatapu. Fua'amotu International Airport is a short distance by road into the capital of Nuku'alofa.

Local transfers by light aircraft are possible. Domestic flights are available to fly north to the Ha'apai group and Vava'u, both popular holiday destinations in Tonga.
