Map of Vava'u Islands of Tonga
THE islands of Vava'u are one of the four main island groups in Tonga. Lying to the north of the main island, they are accessed by regular scheduled domestic flights. The main town is Neiafu, which is located on the southern coastline of the biggest of the group's islands - Vava'u Lahi. Its protected bay - Port Refuge Harbour - is well known as a safe mooring for international yachts and sailboats.
Many of the islands that make up the Vava'u group provide relaxing resort accommodation for tourists wishing to enjoy a relaxing vacation in Tonga. Activities to be enjoyed here include sailing, fishing, kayaking, snorkelling and scuba diving. A popular seasonal activity is whale-watching and special trips are available for this purpose. The whales migrate from the cold southern oceans to the warmer waters of Tonga to mate and calf and can be seen throughout the islands of Tonga from around June to November each year. »» View a full Map of Tonga »» View a detailed map of the mainland island - Tongatapu
